A Prayer on the Anniversary of 9/11

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. And while much healing has taken place and much beauty has risen from the ashes of that terrible day our friends, our country, and this world continue to grieve. I invite you to join me in pausing to pray; asking God to graciously lead us out of pain and into the peace of His promises.

Heavenly Father, our world has come so far in the last 13 years and yet our world is still awash with grief, fear, and violence. Help us, as a city—as a world—to dress our wounds with hope and to quiet evil with peace. Remind all those who mourn that there is comfort found in Christ who himself was killed and buried under the brutality of evil men, but who rose again. Remind us that His rise from the ashes brings hope to all our hurts and calms all our fears. Thank you for a forgiveness that cannot be stolen. Thank you for your Son, who is stronger than death. Thank for you for the world to come, where buildings stand forever, love reigns supreme, and Christ is King of all. Heal our hearts. Hasten that day. Amen.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
